Painting Plein Air with the Pochade

It’s April and it’s spring!

The small pochade box makes it easy to grab and do a quick watercolor of the landscape.
There is still a little snow on the ground but it is warm in the morning sun.

It’s great to be able to paint outside easily again without the watercolor freezing on the brush.

The snow is melting fast.

The trees haven’t exploded green yet but many birds have migrated back to interior Alaska.

The evening light makes the mountains even more interesting.
The setting sun carves the mountains out of the sky much more clearly.

It is definitely time to grab the pochade box again and PAINT WILDLY!

Thanks Antony! I hope it inspires someone to build one and paint wildly!

  2. Great photos and set up of your watercolour box

Good! I think that Michaels might even have some small wooden boxes for sale if you can’t find a cigar box.

that’s a really great view. I’ve built sever small painting kits, just not that particular type. If I can find the right box, I’ll give it a try.

Thanks Sue! I was a little south of Salcha. There is a blog post on my site describing how to build one of these boxes. It’s very easy. I encourage you to build one. You’ll enjoy using it.

nice photos – where were you when you took the one of the mountain. I have a pochade box, but it’s larger than that. Did yours come as a set, since the palette fits exactly in it and are they still available?
    Thanks
    Sue
