Driving from Alaska to Florida

The unknown is in front of the steering wheel.

We left the 8-5 clock behind us and settled in for the ride. We needed gas, lots of it to keep us going through Alaska, over the Rocky Mountains in Canada, across golden fields of grain and south to curl our toes in the sand of the Florida beach.

I was armed with map, camera, journal and paints.

It was fall. Is there a better time of year to be on the road to see what extravaganza of color could gather? Eye candy to the right and to the left of us. Brilliant golden leaves, each one brighter than the last and some even turned to red. The dark green spruce trees stood behind the golden curtain and made the contrast even more entertaining.

Fear sometimes gets in the way. There are so many things that I want to do. I’ve found fear to be an unwelcome roadblock many times. The unknown has a lot of it because it is, well, the unknown. But not this time. This time was going to be different. We packed and planned and made notes. That nuisance fear was not going to be allowed to stop this trip.

What would YOU do if you were not afraid? Does it makes you smile to think of the opportunities that a moment before you thought impossible?

I gathered my paintings and put them together in a book to document this grand adventure. Driving from Alaska to Florida: a journal of paintings and photographs. The trip began as a whimsical smile and turned into a warm memory. A memory that I share with you.

Is this book a journal of paintings and photographs or is it license and encouragement to you to do those things you’ve stopped yourself from doing? You will have to answer that question for yourself.
