My favorite journal has a black cover and elastic band to hold it closed. Compact convenient size with quality watercolor paper within. Pages tear out if you want to matt and frame your paintings or keep it intact as a journal of your artwork. Moleskine makes a larger one too. Intelligent design. The elastic band keeps it tidy.
Try it out and let me know what you think of it.

Sunshine is very destructive to paintings. I recommend framing it with glass that filters out ultraviolet. It is more expensive but will protect the colors of your pigment. That is still not an ideal situation for your painting. Instead of putting the painting in the storefront window, would it be possible to make a print of it and framing the print behind glass? That would serve as a good introduction to your show, as you could have your name printed large on the print and then the actual painting could be hung as the first painting they see when entering the gallery.
What product do you recommend to protect an acrylic painting from direct sunlight? I am going to have a show where I will have a painting hung directly in a storefront window for a couple months. Do you recommend a spray varnish?
