About
Welcome to Paintmorenow.com
I enjoy encouraging friends of mine to paint so it is a natural fit to be encouraging others on this website. I am going to share ideas on what inspires me to paint more and I hope you share ideas too.
The goal is to paint every day. Draw often and paint wildly!
Never get discouraged. If you aren’t able to paint, then you are gathering experiences, you areĀ gathering color for your palette.
Jan Stitt
I am a painter and I sign my paintings Raven. Alaska is my home. My husband and I live in Fairbanks when we aren’t enjoying the panorama of mountains, river valley and wildlife from our wilderness home. Alaska is a great place for the plein air painter even though we can’t paint outdoors for much of the year.
In the photo above, I am painting in Denali National Park in September. Sitting by Wonder Lake and looking at Mt. McKinley. The trees are colorful and there aren’t any mosquitoes in the fall. They can be quite a challenge when you are plein air painting.
I’ve enjoyed building this website with my daughter Darcy. She is a wife and mom and is busy raising my two grandchildren. They are a delight!
Darcy has always been good with computers and has a flair for color and space. She has built these pages and encouraged me to start blogging. It’s a new adventure!
Draw Often and Paint Wildly
My goal is to draw often and paint wildly. I have discovered that by encouraging others, I am also encouraged and have been able to put more time and energy into my painting. Time management is key. Be careful with your time, it is very valuable and can not be replaced. Use it wisely and enjoy!
Classical Training
I lived, ate and breathed art during my classical art training in Denver, Colorado. I studied with many different artists and graduated from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design trained in painting and graphic design. Graphic design was called commercial art at that time. It was before computers changed this field which gives you a good idea of my age.
I studied anatomy, color theory, value, composition, figure drawing, figure painting, art history, sculpture, photography, animal anatomy, portraiture, illustration, fashion illustration, graphic design, watercolor, oil and acrylic painting, landscape painting and the best part was plein air painting.
Anyone can learn to paint. You just have to be willing to commit the time and energy to do it. Be willing to fail but then pick up the brush again. Laugh at your failures. Work hard on your focus. Be a life long learner. It never gets to be easy but it does get to be more enjoyable.
My artwork has been selected in juried shows with jurors from all over the country and has received four honorable mentions. My paintings and drawings are in private collections in Germany, Sweden, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, South Carolina, Texas, Washington and Alaska. I have exhibited paintings at the Anchorage Museum of Art, Artique Gallery in Anchorage, Philip J. Steele Gallery in Denver, Well Street Gallery in Fairbanks, Bear Gallery in Fairbanks and a painting was recently purchased by the University of Alaska Museum for their permanent collection.
I work at the University of Alaska Fairbanks as Creative Director for the Marketing and Communications office.
